Jose Cortes-Pantoja, MFT Intern
As an MFT intern, I approach therapy with a deep understanding of the significance of family systems and relational dynamics. Coming from a family of eight siblings, with a mix of cultural backgrounds between Mexico and the U.S., I’ve experienced firsthand how diverse family structures and cultural contexts shape individual experiences. These experiences, combined with my marriage into a large family, have enriched my understanding of both the positive and negative dynamics within relationships. I am committed to seeing people as part of a broader system and work from a perspective that integrates both individualism and collectivism to help people find harmony within themselves and their relationships.

I am passionate about utilizing the principles of relational patterns that shape our experiences and influence our lives. I believe that relationships—whether familial, marital, or within broader social contexts—are central systems through which we grow and experience change. Helping individuals, couples, and families understand and transform these dynamics enables them to break old patterns and create new ways of being. My approach is guided by compassion, curiosity, and hopefulness. I am committed to fostering a compassionate environment where clients feel safe and understood, maintaining curiosity to explore their unique experiences without judgment, and instilling hope for growth and healing, knowing that every person has the potential to change when supported with empathy and care.

Through my work with diverse populations, from youth in detention to vulnerable families, I’ve seen the profound impact that relational conflict and trauma can have. These experiences have fueled my desire to guide others through their journey of healing, self-discovery, and relational growth. I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported as they work through their challenges. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they explore their family dynamics, break negative patterns, and build healthier relationships based on understanding, compassion, and mutual respect.

Therapy is a shared journey, and I view my role as a guide who helps clients tap into their potential for growth, healing, and connection. I believe in the transformative power of faith and light, inspired by the belief that 'By carrying the light of God, it reflects in the world around you, and wherever you go, darkness must flee.' This idea is at the heart of my approach, motivating me to assist others in discovering their inner strength and light, even in the most challenging times. Together, we will explore deeper insights, identify the underlying causes of difficulties, and cultivate meaningful, lasting change.
